Waiting for bedrock

Martin abseiling outside the dome. The missing rubber panel is just outside the window of the cupula.

A lot of good things are going on in the camp while waiting for the bedrock. Today Martin used the whole day stapling the black rubber sheets back onto the dome. Martin was securely abseiling round the dome with a stapler. One of the rubber sheets was blown off this winter and while we are waiting for new rubber sheets to arrive in camp we would like to secure all the rest of the rubber panels. Meg and Jinhwa weighed all the packed ice boxes in the science trench while Sepp made a list of all empty zarges boxes in camp and Sverrir maintained the generator and made a drawer for under the table in the cupula office. All while Steff, Trevor, Nan and Derryn drilled and Ilka and Eliza logged, ran the DEP and made thin sections. Chiara made a wonderful Italian pasta for lunch and pulled pork sandwiches for dinner.

What we did today:

  1. Drilled three ice cores (last run 1133, drillers depth 2642.7 m).
  2. Logging depth: 2655.84 m. Processing depth: 2653.75 m bag 4825.
  3. Weighed ice core boxes in science trench.
  4. Stapled the rubber to the Dome.
  5. Erected new toilet tent.
  6. Maintained the generator.
  7. Made overview of empty zarges boxes in camp.
  8. Chiara cooked amazing pasta and pulled pork sandwiches for lunch and dinner.

Weather today: Overcast with light snowfall, NE winds calm during night increasing to 13 kt. Temperatures -5°C during night warming to -1°C during the day.
