The next day

Meg and Martin helping Dorthe assemble the logger calibration stand.

After yesterday, we think it is most likely that there is rock preventing the ice drill to penetrate. The rock could be to one side of the borehole. This is not the only possibility, but we find it the most likely based on the evidence we have. A test to see if the conical reamer could press down was made resulting in damages on the reamer and a broken pin on the shaft. Again, confirming something very hard at the bottom of the borehole. More attempt will be made tomorrow.
It seems likely that it soon will be time for borehole logging so the new logger calibration stand was assembled outside Dorthe’s tent, Stapi, so it is far from magnetic sources.

What we did today:

  1. Lowered Conical reamer down to the bed.
  2. Logging to 2663.73 m.
  3. Removed all items in concert hall.
  4. Continued to staple the black rubber to the Dome. More than 10.000 staples used.
  5. Continued studies of the crystals in the science trench.
  6. Installed foundation for the logger calibration stand.
  7. Cleaned in mechanic garage.
  8. Packed AWI equipment in the Science trench.
  9. Finalized food order.

Weather today: A warm and sunny day with scattered clouds. Wind between 4 and 9 kt from SW to W, temperatures between -14°C and -3°C.
