EGRIP salad

Chiara with the salad grown hydroponic in the cupula.

While the drillers are making a final run for the last ice core, life goes on in camp. Today it was Jonathan’s 24 year birthday and we celebrated the day with homegrown EGRIP salad and a wonderful lemon tart by Chiara. As tradition calls, we sung the birthday song with instruments and Jonathan choose a guitar, a recorder and moving zarges boxes. The attempt to drill a final core with the rock drill became complicated: when the drill was pulled up – it came up without the rock drill. The drill had unattended disconnected at the baronet-coupling… Ups.. Steff made a conical center part to guide the top part of the drill and we went fishing for the drill. Late evening the drill came up after a successful fishing. The baronet-coupling had attached but the bottom part of the rock drill had unscrewed itself at the base.

What we did today:

  1. Celebrated Jonathan’s 24 year birthday.
  2. Attempted to drill a fourth core.
  3. Packed the last drill equipment.
  4. Packed boxes with cables, lights and connection boxes from satellite sledge.
  5. Moved retro boxes to sledges.
  6. Finalized paperwork for mission.

Weather today: Groundfog in the early morning. Low overcast most of the day. Wind between 2 kt and 9 kt from WSW turning to W. Temperatures between -17°C and -6°C.
