Bed-mud

The staircase pallet with overhang made by Sverrir and Sepp.

When retrieving the last core with mud, the liquid above the core was gathered in a bucket. Later it was poured over in a jug (for apple juice). The liquid separated out with a top layer of drill liquid and a bottom layer of water – when shaken looks like very wet mud. It is worth noting that water is about half the content documenting that there really is a high content of water near the base. The mud separates out in two – the layer at the bottom of the jug of fine-grained material and some more slimy material at the boundary between the water and the drill liquid. We think this is the material flowing in the borehole and covering the lens of the camera when we lower it down – but what is it?

What we did today:

  1. Built a pallet with staircase parts (overhang pallet).
  2. Built pallet with sauna garage and zarges boxes from satellite sledge.
  3. Started taking down Logging Cabin in trenches.
  4. Started logging borehole with new boreholelogger.

Weather today: Overcast during the day with periods with light snow and clearing in the evening. Wind between 0 kt and 10 kt from turning from NE to W and temperatures between -18°C and -5°C.
