We can see the end of the season

The colored evening sky.

We have had a week where the whole camp has been busy packing and preparing the camp for next year. The garages look empty, the science trench is empty, the logging cabin gone. The built pallets becoming more and more. It is like moving your home. A nostalgic moment while packing and thinking about what the next year will bring.
Before becoming too dramatic, we do have two more seasons planned for EGRIP. Next year a short season logging the borehole again with the borehole loggers and testing new drill equipment to drill into the wall and replicate the bottom part of the borehole. Maybe a longer season also supporting the NSF GreenDrill program. And 2025, where we plan to move our mobile camp to the old GRIP site on the Summit of the Greenland ice sheet.
We had a great Saturday night with ribeye steaks, ‘rød grød med fløde’ and a Anton Berg chocolate and cognag in the cupula watching the sun color the sky and discussing the difference between ‘knude’, ‘stik’ and ‘knob’ (different expressions for rope knots in Danish).

What we did during the weekend:

  1. Packed boxes and documented items staying in camp in the carpenter garage.
  2. Maintained PistenBully.
  3. Maintained vehicles.
  4. Preparing pack-down schedule.

Weather in weekend: Overcast during the day with groundfog. Wind between 6 kt and 12 kt Saturday from WSW to SW and Sunday W. Temperatures between -10°C and -4°C both days.
